Caring For Your Jewelry

To prolong the life of your jewelry —

Please remove your pieces when cleaning, exercising, and doing other strenuous activities. Harsh chemicals (such as cleaning solutions, lotions, and perfumes) may react and damage the metal in your pieces. Vigorous activities like exercising or moving heavy furniture may scratch or warp delicate pieces of metal.

When you are not wearing your jewelry —

Store your pieces in a soft cloth pouch to prevent scratches. An air-tight container or bag will slow down pieces from oxidizing and tarnishing. Keep stored jewelry in a dry environment and avoid storing jewelry in the bathroom — the humidity can quicken the pace of tarnishing.

To brighten tarnished jewelry —

Use a polishing cloth. Pinch your piece in the polishing cloth and rub the metal firmly.

To clean dirty jewelry —

Submerge your piece in warm soapy water for a few minutes to loosen the dirt. Then use a soft bristle toothbrush to brush out stubborn pieces of dirt. After the dirt has been removed, immediately dry your jewelry with a soft cloth. For good measure, use a polishing cloth to brighten your piece!

14k gold, gold-filled, and sterling silver —

These are fine metals which hold beautiful shines and they can be good choices for people with skin sensitives. For more sensitive folks, 14k gold may be a better option. Occasional polishing will still be necessary for these materials depending on how they are stored.

Brass —

Brass is a suitable material due to its low cost and gold-like appearance when polished. However, brass tends to tarnish quicker than fine metals and may need more frequent polishing. Brass pieces may leave a dark or greenish color on your skin depending on your skin’s PH or if they are not regularly cared for. Avoid getting moisture on brass pieces by removing them while showering/exercising/swimming and store them properly when they are not being worn. Brass pieces can be brought back to their original gold-like shine with a polishing cloth.
